The Design Process

Designing and furnishing a home that says “WOW” is more complex than most people realize. Professional designers adhere closely to a well-defined “process” in order to achieve results that look…well…professional! Guidance from a professional will alleviate frustration, wasted time and costly mistakes, and give you results that you would not likely achieve on your own. (Think of trying to cut your own hair rather than going to a professional hairdresser….yikes!)

The Initial In-Home Consultation
Vicki will come to your home to discuss your design goals, priorities, and budget. You will discuss your family’s functional needs, as well as your personal style and color preferences. You will also determine what items you would like to replace, and which ones you want to build upon. Vicki will provide feedback on ways you can improve your space, and share some initial ideas with you. Vicki is very hands on…don’t be surprised if she rearranges your furniture!

The Floor Plan
Vicki will measure your room, create a scaled drawing, and provide you with recommended floor plans. In many cases, there will be more than one option. You will have ample opportunity to provide feedback and revise the plans until you are completely satisfied. This is a very important part of the process; the floor plan will be your “guideline” for future buying decisions.

The In-Store Meeting
You will meet at a store to select furniture, flooring, or whatever is required for your project. Vicki will help you choose upholstered pieces that are comfortable and appealing to you, and customize each piece with the perfect fabric to suit your tastes and complement your home. She will help you combine styles, textures, colors and patterns that don’t necessarily “match,” but rather “complement” each other for a professionally-designed look.

Vicki has established relationships with several local retailers that offer a diverse variety of brands, styles and price points. She will advise you on which store best suits your style and budget, and start there. The shopping process may require more than one meeting depending on the size of your project.

The Finishing Touches:
Once the major pieces of furniture are selected, Vicki will help you select paint color, artwork, lighting, window treatments, and accessories. Those items are just as important in completing a room (if not more important!) as the furniture. Vicki has many sources for artwork, mirrors, lamps and other accessories, and together you will select the finishing touches for that designer look.

Vicki can be reached anytime at 585-278-8320, or by contact form to schedule an in-home interior design consultation.
